    APPEASE (OR SOOTHE OR ASSUAGE OR MOLLIFY) (Verb)
Meaning- 1) to make (someone) pleased or less angry by giving or saying something desired.
                       2) to make (something, such as an unpleasant feeling) less painful, severe etc.
Synonym- PLACATE, CONCILIATE, QUELL, PACIFY
Uses-
  • ·         The move was widely seen as an attempt to appease critics of the regime.
