PROPOUND (Verb)



Meaning- to suggest (an idea, theory etc.) to a person or group of people to consider

Mnemonic trick- We can think that word propound is made up of two words ‘propose’ and ‘round’. Someone is propounding idea to a group of people sitting on round table or he is proposing the idea to a group of people sitting on round table. Therefore, propose means to suggest an idea or theory.

  •          It was Ptolemy who propounded the theory that the earth was at the center of the universe.
  •          Zoologist Eugene Morton has propounded a general theory of the vocal sounds that animal make.

PROFOUND (Adj.)

Meaning- 1) something that is characterized by intensity or depth.
                    2) very strongly felt
