                                  PERFUNCTORY (Adj.)



Meaning- describe something that is done without energy or enthusiasm because of habit or because it is expected.

Mnemonic trick- word perfunctory is made from the combination of two words ‘perform’ and ‘function’. After some time we engineer perform our work perfunctorily or without enthusiasm and energy at our workplace. Therefore, perfunctory means something that is done without enthusiasm or energy.

Uses-
  •          A perfunctory examination by a busy doctor who has very little time for you.
  •          He did his work perfunctorily.
  •          The singer delivered a perfunctory performance in the reality show that displayed no enthusiasm and no expression.
  •          We should not say that big performers give the only perfunctory performance in college fests.
