                  PLACATE (OR MOLLIFY) (Verb)




Meaning- to cause someone to feel less angry about something or to calm down

Synonym- APPEASE, ASSUAGE, CONCILIATE, PROPITIATE

Synonym explanation- mollify (or placate) means to cause someone to feel less angry about something or to calm down. 
Appease implies quieting demands by making concessions. For example:
1) appease their territorial ambitions.
2) They appeased the dictator by accepting his demands in an effort to avoid war.

Propitiate means to make someone please or to reduce the anger especially of a superior being. For example:
1) He made offerings to propitiate the angry gods.

Conciliate means to make someone less angry or to please someone by persuasion, concession, or settling of differences.
1    1)  Company’ s attempt to conciliate the workers on strike have failed

Assuage means to make (something, such as an unpleasant feeling) less painful, severe etc.
     
Uses-
  •          The board placated protestors by agreeing to consider their demands.
  •          Outraged minority groups will not be placated by promises of future improvements.
  •          Shopkeeper got failed in placating angry customers.
