CANON (Noun)

Meaning- Generally accepted rule, standard or principle by which something is judged.

Mnemonic trick- cannon means a large gun. Follow the canon otherwise you will be killed using cannon. Therefore, canon means generally accepted rule.

Uses-

•          “One catastrophe, one locality, one day”. These are the Aristotle’s rules for tragedy and classic French plays strictly follow them. Shakespeare however disregards all these canons.
