                                      VACILLATE (Verb)

Meaning- 1) to keep changing your opinion or thoughts about something especially in a way that annoys other people.
                       2) hesitate.

Mnemonic trick- The word vacillate contains word ‘cillate’. ‘cillate’ sounds similar to oscillate. Just like pendulum oscillates between two positions or we can say that pendulum vacillates between two positions. Therefore, vacillate means to keep changing your opinion or thoughts about something especially in a way that annoys other people.

Synonym- FLUCTUATE, WAVER, HESITATE, OSCILLATE

Uses-
  • Vacillated for so long that someone else stepped in and made the decision.
  •  After the breakup with her boy-friend, Michael seemed to vacillate between angry and very sad.
  •    Her mood vacillated between hope and despair.
  • Yesterday Pooja seemed to be so sure about where he would be going this weekend, but today he is vacillating as to whether he will visit his mother or go to the football game.
