Meaning- falsely appearing to be true but actually false

Mnemonic trick- The word specious sounds similar to spices. Cook in the restaurant always gives specious excuses for making spicy food. Specious excuses means false excuses. Therefore, specious means falsely appearing to be true but actually false.
