LAMENT (Verb)


Mnemonic trick- The word lament contains word ‘lamen’. ‘lamen’ sounds similar to lemon. We lament, if we do not get lemon juice and lemon tea at time. Therefore, lament means too express, sorrow, regret or unhappiness about something.

Synonym- BEMOAN, BEWAIL, DEPLORE, MOURN

Meaning- An expression of sorrow; especially: a song or poem that expresses sorrow for someone who has died or something that is gone.

Synonym- DIRGE, ELEGY, THRENODY

Uses-
  •          The poem is a lament for a lost love.
  •          I don’ t think that there was any national lament when corrupt prime-minister was assassinated.
