                                 QUIESCENT (Adj.)

Meaning- 1) temporarily quiet and not active.
                    2) In medicine, pertaining to causing no trouble or symptoms.

Mnemonic trick- The word quiescent contains two words ‘quies’ and ‘scent’. ‘quies’ sounds similar to quiet and ‘scent’ sounds similar to ‘saint’. A quiescent person is quiet like a saint. Therefore, quiescent means temporarily quiet and not active.

Synonym- INERT, LETHARGIC, INACTIVE, SLUGGISH, TORPID, DORMANT

Uses-
  •          The family was quiescent as they were watching interesting film on TV.
  •          The doctor Jill that her quiescent gallstones should not be a problem; at least, not for a while.
  •          The political situation was now relatively quiescent.
  •          His quiescent nature was embarrassing.
